Winged set needle with extension line are indicated for blood collection. They offer greater flexibility and accuracy since bilateral wings and short length allow a phlebotomist to grip close to the needle and precisely place it in the vein. Easier access to superficial veins near the surface of the skin due to small size and shallow-angle design (hand, foot, scalp). Easier access to ‘difficult access’ veins, i.e., veins that are small and narrow (infants or the elderly) or spastic (rolling) (oncology patients). Potentially reducing the distress caused by multiple sample collection, as the pressure of inserting the tube into the holder dissipates along the tubing and does not cause movement of the needle in the vein.
